positive affirmations

Project Description

Western culture is increasingly becoming callous through the use of media. Media has made possible online flame wars, vitriolic political rhetoric and a general lack of civility towards one another a daily occurrence. We no longer strive to be nice to one another. This lack of being nice and of engaging in public forums in a hostile way has become a slippery slope that can only cause problems as we try to move forward as a people.

Positive Affirmations is a project that attempts to offer an alternative to the acerbic rhetoric through community participation, digital and social media. Based on the idea that giving positive affirmations to one another can affect change, this project asks people to earnestly share a positive wish for the world with each other. Viewers will be able to choose short video clips that can be download as well as sent to each other via the internet, and QR coding. People will also be able submit videos to share their positive affirmation. It is the hope, that by sending an earnest good will out into the world we each can contribute and distribute to a better dialogue. This project is based on an understanding that it is not a fool’s errand to share positive affirmations, but rather believes that a small gesture of hope and belief in each other can affect change.

How it works:

The website will function as a place for people to view, send and download short videos of people saying positive affirmations. The video’s will be created at an event, as well as through an open call. All video submissions must be positive.

People can download videos and QR codes to share the positive affirmation with each other, thereby creating positive gestures towards their fellow human beings.

Additionally, through the event and open call people can contact to recieve stickers of the QR code. These stickers can then be put in their environments to share the positve affirmations.
