Dispersing Utopia
On April 20th, 2010 the idea and the actuality of an American utopia fundamentally changed forever.
This print based project, Dispersing Utopia, uses google maps to capture cities in the in Untied States that are
named Utopia, and also utopias synonyms, Eden and Arcadia. Using the image metaphor for utopia, taken
with by satellites thousands of miles above as the base of the this series, I then overlay on the
utopias, the negative affects of the oil slowly dispersing into the gulf, literally and metaphorically
mapping over the symbolic cities of Utopia, swallowing our places of paradise into the emptiness left
by the organic spread.
